The First & Second Day in Minamisanriku Town

As I was tired, I couldn’t update the blog yesterday although it was the first day.  Today was the second day.

The site is Bayside Arena, multipurpose gymnasium located at the top of a mountain in Minamisanriku Town.  The exhibition is being held at one of the conference room in it.

A victim who asked us to paint a picture of her pet visited us on the first & second day.  She was crying when she saw the painting and she said, “Finally, I can meet you”.  She told me various stories of her beloved pet and said “thank you” many times at the end.  I almost cried, so I fought to keep from crying by pinching the skin on the back of my hand behind my back.  But I finally started crying.

Nevertheless applicants could go to nearer site of the exhibition, they came all the way to Minamisanriku Town because they can’t wait.  They will visit the nearer site, too.  Also, many people who were joining various volunteer activities visited us.

Thank you very much for the artists who participated in painting.
By this event, I keep the important thing in my heart every day.

Tomorrow will be the last day in Minamisanriku.

Installation was completed in Minamisanriku Town

Today we started installation of the exhibition at 10AM.  My friends from Kanagawa and Ibaraki joined to help me, so the installation work was done by women only.  We assembled panels for display paintings.  It was heavy and tough work, however, we could complete it at 8PM.  Tomorrow will be the day of opening.

I had a phone call from NHK Sendai and they will report the exhibition in tomorrow’s morning news!  The radio station in Minamisanriku Town is also reporting it many times.  Hope many people will visit us.

Final Day at Gallery Space of Amagasaka Salon in Nagoya

Today was the last day of “Precious Little Lives Lost in the Earthquake” held at Gallery Space of Amagasaka Salon in Nagoya.
Many, many people visited there every day.  Today, the last day, we had a flow of visitors.  A total of 400 people visited us from March 17 to 25!  I’m very happy to hear that.  Thank you so much.

Hope we could sow a tiny seed in visitors’ hearts.

Also, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Amagasaka Salon for their empathy for our plan and their kindness to provide the space.  The exhibition in Nagoya successfully ended by the support of their passion to wish for the recovery from the disaster.

The next exhibition will be held in Minamisanriku Town.  I, Usa, will start a Tohoku tour since March 28.

Installation on Friday, March 16

“Precious Little Lives Lost in the Earthquake” has begun from Saturday, March 17 at the gallery space of Amagasaka Salon in Nagoya City.  It was an installation day on March 16.  My younger sister, niece, teacher & classmate from high school gathered to help me.  Thankfully, one of my friend took a one-day trip from Tokyo to help me as a volunteer.  Thank you for all the warmth of many, many people.

I was moved to tears by the atmosphere which was spread all at once when installation of paintings drawn by artists was finished.
The space was overflowing with thoughts of artists which were put their heart in paintings --- pets in paintings who passed away come back to lives and play together --- the space was filled with such feelings.
